    Research Profile

    Research interests: History of Old Testament Literature/Hebrew Bible, especially the Pentateuch and the Book of Deuteronomy; Biblical and Cuneiform Law

    Research Projects: Commentaries on the Books of Genesis (ATD) and Deuteronomy (HAT); History of the Literature of the Old Testament in the Neo-Assyrian and the Neo-Babylonian Periods. Supervising dissertation and habilitation projects in a wide variety of research areas.

    Teaching Profile

    Prof. Gertz’s teaching includes all aspects of OT literary history and Ancient Israel including introductory lectures, and basic and advanced seminars on specific topics of current research. This allows advanced students, doctoral candidates and postdocs to enter into lively debate. Seminars are always multilingual. Prof. Gertz also provides regular opportunities for students to participate in class excursions and trips abroad.
