Research Profile
Having been trained in the domains of structuralism, my main areas of expertise involve exegetical and hermeneutical studies on the High Middle Ages (12th-13th c.), particularly on the scriptural commentaries and sermons produced in the monastic and scholastic cultures. My research field also includes the 16th-17th centuries. In this period I am exploring the process of permanence and renewal in exegetics up to modern times as well as the medieval sources in commentaries and tracts of Protestant reformers. My third research interest concerns the works of Rhenish and French Hebraists of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Teaching Profile
I am teaching the history of western medieval Christianity along with its institutions, sources, investigational methodology, and epistemology – all viewed from a perspective encompassing religious anthropology and the history of differing world-views and attitudes. In my courses, I bring into focus also the history of theology and western medieval philosophy and their interrelations with Jewish theology and philosophy. I am particularly concerned with the history of medieval Judaism, its individuals and their contributions, and its affiliation with Christianity.
